An Indian man who smuggled a Pakistani into Hong Kong in his suitcase was sentenced Thursday to 16 months in jail.
Pardeep Singh, 22, was found guilty of aiding and abetting the Pakistani's illegal entry into Hong Kong, officials said in a statement.
On Dec. 26, Singh entered Hong Kong through a checkpoint at the mainland Chinese border city of Shenzhen, carrying a large suitcase.
When authorities found the hidden Pakistani man inside, Singh denied the luggage was his and claimed an Indian friend gave it to him.
Officials said the Pakistani _ identified by local media as 24-year-old Raja Kamran _ had been deported from Hong Kong on Aug. 14 and flew to Shenzhen, where he met Singh. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison last month for illegal re-entry.
