Murtha Hiding True Intentions
(Retreat and Defeat)

U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., is making no secret of his intention to ensure that American troops cannot do their jobs in Iraq.

Murtha has said that he plans to attach conditions to a bill that would provide funding for the about 21,000 troops being sent to Iraq as part of a ‘‘surge’’ strategy by the White House. The conditions are that funding will not be provided until the military meets certain requirements concerning training and equipping of troops.

At first glance that sounds prudent. Who wants American troops going into harm’s way without proper training and equipment? But that isn’t Murtha’s idea. He has said in advance that the military cannot meet the requirements he plans to insert in the bill.

In other words, Murtha isn’t as concerned about training and equipment as he is about ensuring that U.S. troops in Iraq are not funded adequately. He is determined not to give the ‘‘surge’’ strategy a chance to succeed.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., already has said that she likes Murtha’s plan. It is preferable to an approach that would cut funding to troops in Iraq off completely, she has said.

But, of course, the bill with Murtha’s stipulation would have the effect of pulling the funding rug out from under our troops in Iraq. By imposing unreasonable requirements he knows cannot be met, Murtha knows the ‘‘surge’’ troops will not receive the funding they need for their mission.

He — with support from Pelosi and other liberals — is setting the troops up for failure. That is a strategy others in Congress should reject.

Okay think about this. The Haditha Marine's Attorneys are now using Murthas rants as a defense.

Perhaps Murtha knew this would happen and provided an easy defense for his Bros?
