"Never again"
The Beaver County Times

Tuesday's editorial suggested to Vietnam veterans that now "it's time for them to be there for their comrades in arms who are being wounded in Iraq."

We, the members of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 862, could not agree more.

I would like to share a few examples of VVA 862's support for our current soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines.

We regularly fund the Yellow Ribbon Girls to support their efforts to send packages to our troops.

We hosted an organizational meeting and provided seed money and training funds for the Veterans of Modern Warfare, a new veteran service organization to represent veterans who served after 1990.

We contribute to the welfare of injured troops by supplying phone cards and other donated items.

We met with newly elected U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire, D-4, and intend to help him champion veterans issues' in Congress, most especially the expeditious and fair processing of VA claims.

We have held a troop rally every year to signal our community support of those defending freedom around the globe.

Our founding principal is: "Never again shall one generation of veterans abandon another."

We hold those words sacred and will continue to show our support of these brave men and women. We will not stand idly by and watch these young men and women receive anything less than the dignity, respect and health care they earned on foreign battlefields.

So, in response, the editorial was correct. We have been in their boots, and we will do our best to offer our support and guidance as they serve our nation.
