FAYETTEVILLE -- They've served the United States in battle overseas. Now they can truly call the flag on their uniforms their own.

About 70 soldiers and Marines became U.S. citizens Tuesday in a ceremony at Fort Bragg. All passed the interview, tests and background investigation required to become Americans; many also have deployed numerous times in support of the Global War on Terrorism and other conflicts.

The ceremony included a performance by the 82 nd Airborne All-American chorus, a video from President George W. Bush welcoming the new citizens, a cake-cutting ceremony and a speech by Lieutenant Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III, commanding general of the 18th Airborne.
