#1 WHO'S HAS YOUR BACK
to honor what so many of us give and to remind us who it is that has our backs**
>
> I am a small and precious child, my dads been sent to fight..
> The only place I'll see his face, is in my dreams at night.
> He will be gone too many days for my young mind to keep track.
> I may be sad, but I am proud. My daddys got your back..
>
> I am a caring mother. My son has gone to war..
> My mind is filled with worries that I have never known before.
> Everyday I try to keep my thoughts from turning black.
> I may be scared, but I am proud. My son has got your back..
>
> I am a strong and loving wife, with a husband soon to go.
> There are times I'm terrified in a way most never know.
> I bite my lip, and force a smile as I watch my husband pack..
> My heart may break, but I am proud. My husbands got your back..
>
> I am a serviceman, Serving Proudly,standing tall.
> I fight for freedom, yours and mine by answering this call.
> I do my job while knowing, the thanks it sometimes lacks.
> Say a prayer that I'll come home. It's me whose got your back.

#2 COMBAT WIFE
Here we go again,
no sleep tonight.
You're in the jungle, on patrol,
in another firefight.

You talk of war, I hear your pain,
I'm trying to be strong.
But the tales you tell me in the dark
torment me all night long.

It all comes back so crystal clear,
you scream, you thrash, you turn.
You grip me in an iron hold,
I feel your body burn.

Broken bodies, tortured minds,
faces of the dead.
Friends who died before your eyes,
forever in your head.

Open your eyes, turn on the lights,
it's only you and me!
It's just a chair, no one's there,
How many do you see?

Lay back down, I'm with you now,
I'll share your ugly dreams.
I won't leave, I'm here to ease
the suffering that you've seen.

We have so much to overcome,
but I won't give up, not yet.
I've made my choice to understand
the things you can't forget.

#3 HOW CAN THEY
How can everyone around me be calm and act normal each day
While my Marine fights for their freedom in a land far away

How can they laugh, and talk while out and about, as if nothing is wrong
While I sit at home crying at every commercial, movie, and song

How can they not know the hurt I feel in my heart, torn between duty and fear
While they never think to ask if I need anything or need someone waiting near

How can they complain about having to be up before dawns early light
While my Marine crouches in a trench shivering from cold each and every night

How can they not see the images on television that I pray my children won't see
While those very images follow me to bed each night, ripping my spirit from me

How can they open their door at a single knock, not checking once to see who's there
While my heart stops when I hear a knock, thinking bad news is about to be shared

How can they not think of the struggles we survive each day when we love a Marine
While they share holidays, and happiness, my Marines hazel eyes are all I wish to see

How can they not thank the families of our Marines for the gifts that they quietly give
While ensuring in freedom, liberty, and peace they will forever live
