Here's the deal. I enlisted on 9/11/2006 as a 92-day reservist as an 0311 and I ship on May 21. My recruiter left around January for another RSS and I have a new guy now. I took a look at my poolee...

Be straight up with him... " I will not ship unless I get an 0300 slot!"
Don't just let people do that kinda stuff. Follow up, I'd be calling every week. The more time he has, the less effort he will have. He may think you just settled for 1371!?!

I would say you got to be flexible for the Marines, but in this case I think it's a recruiter being sketchy so... I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he switched your mos that way he could get one more person to join by giving the spot you had there. Keep calling every few days about whether or not the other RSS agreed to the trade. If it comes down to it tell them you'll only ship if you have it. You still somewhat should be flexible in situations, but unless you signed and open contract you shouldn't let someone do that...you should at least have an 03xx

Does it honestly bother you that much?

BrentAndrew is correct. Tell the recruiters you are not shipping unless you have the MOS you want. Your recruiter screwed you, and you should not have to pay the price for that.

I remember you telling me about your MOS predicament at the gym a couple of weeks ago. There will be very few times in your Marine Corps career where you will be in control of where you go, when you go, and what you get to do. Having the MOS you want is a big deal. The recruiters are probably hoping you'll just settle for 1371, but if you don't want it, don't take it! Just simply say that you were promised 0311, and you won't ship until you get it. Easy as that.

It should bother you. A recruiter pulled the same crap on me, but I never knew until I was signing the paperwork at MEPS the day I shipped. While I enjoyed my time in the Marine Corps, I do still resent him for it. I never got to do what I really wanted to do, and that isn't right.

I wouldnt call everyweek... I WOULD CALL EVERYDAY. In your contract that you signed, was it 0311, or was it an open contract. They cant change anything without your signature, if im not mistaken.

Get a job that you want. Have it in writing.

The enlistment paper said 0311, as did the paper I handed in to the CO of my unit. It was definately 0311, and my info shows my recruiter definately changed it.

I decided to call the Bel Air RSS since it was the next closest to me, and asked the recruiter if he had 0300 spots open in his area. Nothing harmless, right? The guy says he'll look, 30 seconds later I'm getting a call from my own gunny and he proceeds to chew me out for doing his job, going behind his back, so on and so forth. Later that day it turns out a guy with an 0300 slot might not be able to go this summer, so that could be my slot. What a coincidence.

Imagine that... I had to do something similar with my recruiter. He said there wasn't any 0200 contracts left. So I told him I'd go find another recruiter and a week later he found one from PA i guess?!?! Some of these Fcuck fcuck games are shady! I will agree!

What the hell? Combat engineers have all the fun! You would learn a saleable trade as well. Your recruiter probably did you a favor. Take that MOS and run with it. Whatever MOS you'll have your chance to wade through the mud and the blood and the beer.

You could also go see an Army recruiter and tell them you want to be an 11 bravo. I hear they take whiners with open arms there.

I'm not saying that what your recruiter did was right, but I had a similar situation. I scored very well on my ASVAB and qualified for everything with flying colors but I had my heart set on 4421 (Legal Specialist) as that is what I want to pursue in my college career. When it came time to sign my contract at MEPS the contract said 0627 (SATCOM). At first I was pretty upset and spoke to my recruiter and the CO of the RSS. They said they would look for a 4421. Then I sat down with the GUNNY and he looked at me and saw I was ****ed, he asked me "Why do you want to be a Marine?" Needless to say, I signed the contract. Although signing a Marine Corps contract is a big deal, always keep in mind why you want to become a Marine. My answer to him was that I want to challenge myself, I want to earn the title of U.S Marine and I want to serve my country. Notice that career was not in the top 3. I think all of the Marines on here had at least 2 of those in there top 3. I hope as a fellow poolee you do too. Good Luck.

For what its worth, 0627 is a pretty great job. But, nothing like being a 4421.

I'm very excited about the prospect of getting Marine Corps training in that field. But I'm more excited about the prospect of becoming a Marine. I feel like my ship date can't come soon enough, heheh.

Seem's as if you are the only one on this thread that has a good attitude about shipping. I trained and recruited recruit's in that order for the Marine Corps. Open contract is what most of them wanted. if not, then they were sent to the Army and the rest of the mobs that was down the hall way, wouldn't put a whinner in. Dang if it dosen't seem as if these day's everyone is forgetting that all Marines are basic grunt's and that's what it's all about. Semper Fi HLeyb!

I have a good attitude about shipping! When my recruiter told me that the only slot they had available for a female was an 0151, I took it. Somebody's gotta do it!

Unless the Marine Corps has changed, good posibility, you can request any Military ocupation specialty,( MOS) that you are qualified for on the results of the ASVAB test. No matter what your MOS is, by looking at your profile picture, you will probably end up at Headquarter's of the Marine Corps, for that is where most of the sharp looking Women Marines end up. Hang in there and give then a stiff upper lip and Parris Island. OOHRAAA!

The reason I didn't get to choose my MOS is because I'm doing the split contract 92 day reservist. So, at my unit in D.C., that's all they had for me at the time. I'm cool with it though. Don't worry, I don't look tough, but I am. The recruiter's like me because I laugh when I'm in pain and I kick ass on the PFT. So I'm not worried about PI...well, not yet anyway.
