Local educators to get taste of military life
By Ken Stanford

PARRIS ISLAND - A group of educators from Hall County will spend part of this week at Marine boot camp. They will be participating in the Marines' annual Educators' Workshop at Parris Island, South Carolina .

"We give them kind of an in depth look," said Sgt. Ryan Scranton. "At how we take the individual civilians and turn them into marines."

Scranton said the group will undergo some of the same field exercises that raw recruits endure as part of Marine Corps basic training. The Hall County group is from West Hall, Flowery Branch, East Hall and North Hall high schools.

Sgt. Scranton acknowledged that Marine recruitment is one goal of the workshop, by "(making the) teachers aware of the military options that are available to their students."

Educators from Louisana and Georgia are attending this week's session.

Here is a list of all the schools in northeast Georgia participating:

West Hall High School
North Hall High School
East Hall High School
Flowery Branch High School
Union County High School
Towns County High School
Towns-Union Alternative Ed. Program
