After going back and forth and back and forth again to various computer help desks this weekend and, I might add, almost spending an arm and a leg for various computer parts, I decided to check the wiring from the power on switch to the mother board because my computer was coming on and shutting off by itself. Please note that I don't know squat about computers or electronics, I just didn't have the bucks to get some diagnostic testing done ($65 on up) on my computer. All the "experts" said that I had to replace the mother board, the CPU fan, the power source..or just upgrade and buy a new computer.
If your computer turns on and off try check the connecting wires from the power on switch to the mother board. I drew a diagram that might be of some help.
Adios from South Florida.

I did 15 years as a maintenance electrician and I got to hand it to you, I've seen maintenance electricians (me too) get afraid of black boxes. Just had some touch lamps, no switches stop working. We had to wet are fingers and slap them to get them to turn on. I figured I'd have to buy new lamps http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/34.gif

One day I was perusing around the electrical department at Home Depot and by accident ran across replacements electronics for touch lamps, little black boxes with wires coming out of them http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/01.gif

Did you take computer graphics ? That is a great looking wiring diagram. I made a lot of schematics and wiring diagrams in my time and I'm impressed how professional you created that picture and all http://www.leatherneck.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

Your problem solving skills and savvy are excellent !

Thanks for the good words, Zodiac. No, I have never taken computer graphics, I just try to keep it simple, as in stupid, as in KISS.
I got lucky. I'm terrified of "getting fried' and won't mess with plugged in components. I still have the side of the computer taken off, as I am typing these words, just in case this diagram of mine and its' results are full of it. LOL. Actually the computer has been on for over an hour and it has been moved, by me, from one position to the next, it's still running.
Adios until next time.

Fried? 110 from a computer don't worry me too much. I'm more worried about frying the computer.

But a freakin' stove problem will have me calling "Mr $50+ an Hour" in a heart beat! Anything that requires a 30 amp fuse I fully R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

I'm moving to Canada ! $50 and hour is cheap, but on second thought your money is worth more than ours now. <br />
