Hi, I'm planning to Join the USMC and become an MP in a K-9 Unit.
I was wondering what are the requirments to become an MP and to get into a K-9 Unit. I have alot of experience with dogs, so i was wondering what i have to do, and what score i need on the ASVAB?
Thank you

This should help. Also to be in K-9, I believe at MP school you have to be in the Top percentage and they have a board, and they pick however many they have slots for at K-9 school (dont quote me on this, but I'm 97% sure thats how K-9 gets picked, I remember a friend telling me).

Oh, ok thats great, thank you. Well hopefully i get in the top precentage, because my dad was a German Shepherd dog Breeder so i know ALOT about handling dogs. Does being an MP Require you to go to SERE SChool ?
and where do most k-9 UNits get stationed at ?

As far as I know the only people that go to SERE School are Aircrew, Counter Intel. I can't say for sure MP's dont go, but I'm pretty sure they don't. The good thing about being an MP (or K-9) is they have them at every Marine Corps Base. If u have any other questions, FIRE away.

Oh, ok thank god. haha
Can you choose or request a base to get stationed at?
Will my knowledge of dogs give me any kind of advantage? or not really?
because i dont want to get stuck being a regular MP for 4 years.
Do you know the physical requirments ?

119Wrestler,

Your sent where the Marine Corps needs you. When I went to MOS(for Aviation Operations Specialist, MOS 7041) school people got to pick there location based on how they ranked in class at the time the orders came up. Will your knowledge of dogs give you an advantage? I would honestly say no, but I'm NOT an MP. Buckle down at MP School and do well and you probably wont have to worry about the answer to that question. As for the physical requirements here is the same website I gave you before that has the physical requirements as well http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlis...marinejobs.htm

As far as being stuck as being a regular MP, theres nothing regular of the Job MP's do in our beloved Corps.
