Cullman Co. Marine Laid to Rest
March 1, 2007
CULLMAN, Ala. (AP) - Marines fired a three-volley salute during the funeral of an Alabama Marine who was killed in an accident during training at Camp Lejeune.
More than 300 people attended the funeral of 18-year-old Private First Class Joshua Adam Bailey, of Vinemont, who was fatally wounded during training on February 21st. Bailey, a 2006 graduate of Vinemont High School, was buried at Cook Cemetery in Morgan County yesterday.
Relatives said he was run over by an unknown type of military vehicle during training in North Carolina. Bailey reportedly was sleeping outside and was still asleep when he was struck. Captain David Nevers, a spokesman for the Marine Corps said it could be some time before the investigation is concluded.
Bailey, who enlisted in May, died days before he was set to return to Vinemont for leave. He was scheduled for deployment to Iraq on March 23rd.
