BAKERSFIELD - You need a lot of cooks to feed 19,000 Marines.

For more than 20 years now, the Bakersfield attorney has been throwing Kern County-style barbeques for servicemen and women in the Navy as a show of appreciation.

He rounds up several dozen folks who pay their own way to serve Harris Ranch steaks and all the fixings to those serving our country in the military.

This spring, the cooks from the valley will barbeque for 19,000 Marines at three different bases in the southwest, including Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego.

But he needs volunteers.

“I think it’s important that these Marines be recognized by the cooks from the valley and our community for the unbelievable work they’ve been doing since the beginning of this war,” said Tom Anton, Cooks founder. “Whatever you feel and the war and the politics of it, these are all volunteer soldiers and sailor and we’re all home doing what we do and I think it’s more than fair and appropriate that complete strangers, civilians go out to help.”

If you’re interested in volunteering for any one of these three barbeques, it will cost you between $800 to $12,000.

You can contact Cooks from the Valley at 327-7051 or call Millie at TAntonlaw.com.
