Marines of the Helicopter Support Team attached to Combat Logistics Battalion 22’s landing support, braved bitter winds to air-lift two Humvees, also known as “shot gunning” with tactical speed and combat precision during an external lift exercise aboard Fort A.P. Hill, Va.

According to 2nd Lt. Daniel Robinson, the platoon commander the Marines not only developed discipline of working in sub zero conditions, but they also got hands-on experience of the intricate complexities of the inner workings of an external lift.

“The exercise went well,” said Robinson. “The Marines stepped it up and learned what actually happens on the ground, instead of what is looks like in books.”

The HST Marines provide an efficient and tactical method of insertion, extraction and transportation of needed supplies and personnel. This training has helped cement the essential skills for their upcoming deployment with the 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit scheduled later this year.
