</td></tr> </tbody></table> <!-- E IIMA --> <!-- S SF --> A Royal Marine has died from injuries sustained in a road accident in Afghanistan earlier this month, the Ministry of Defence has said. The accident occurred when the Royal Marine, from 42 Commando, had been driving in a routine convoy in Helmand province on 4 February.
He was transported back to a specialist unit in the UK where he died.
His next of kin have been informed and have requested a period of 24 hours before further details are released. <!-- E SF -->
The acting commander of the UK Task Force, Colonel Ian Huntley said: "This loss comes as another blow to all his Royal Marine colleagues, but our immediate thoughts go out to his family and friends who are coming to terms with their grief at this very difficult time.
"Following the accident his colleagues have continued to display their courage and resolve during their exemplary work in our area of operations in Helmand."
The MoD say the dead man had been driving a Pinzgauer vehicle when the accident happened.
It comes a day after Royal Marine Jonathan 'Dutchy' Holland of 45 Commando was killed by a mine strike in the Sangin Valley of Helmand Province.
The total number of UK troops killed while on operations in Afghanistan since 2001 has now risen to 48.
