Marines assigned to the Combat Logistics Battalion 22 security platoon gripped their M240G 7.62 caliber machine guns with strong focus and intensity during a convoy assault course training evolution despite the frostbitten temperatures aboard Fort A.P. Hill, Va.

According to the battalion’s Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Mark Hollahan, the activity ran smoothly, and he has observed the gunners learn to hit their targets accurately and dependably during the training cycle.

“The range was superbly run,” said Hollohan. “I’ve seen Marines turn from novices into machine gunners who can engage and drop their targets at a tactical speed. They execute the mission the way they would if they were actually under fire.”

The Marines attached to the security platoon will act as the battalion’s first line of defense if the unit enters hostile territory during their upcoming deployment with the 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit.
