As a young buck PFC, I felt I'd consult you veteren leathernecks if any of you have advice on how to be chosen for a K9 unit. I'm just starting my MP school in Ft. LeonardWood, MO, and K9 is something I definately want to get. I know test scores are what determine a large factor in it if your selected, but my platoon sergeant also said we have to go before a board. Are there any tips on how to speak to the 1st Sgt, CO, Gunny; and is there anything I can do in the meantime to make my record look better? I'm starting a few MCI's as well. Thanks all.

MCI's will help. Although not an MP, I am a civilian cop; the K9 guys I've worked with have to have a love of dogs, the ability to 'speak' to and with the animal, and have an cool and calm personality. They also have to be willing to sacrifice the very thing they love; the dog.

Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck.
