I need to talk to a combat marine still spitting dust from Iraq. I have adopted and doggie and I am not all that sure what to send him beyond pogie bait and raizorblades. I know other things are useful. I would appreciate knowing what they are besides orders home, a six pack, women with various hair colors and a Mercedes. I sent the guy a sand scarf and a Bore Snake to make life easier. I am unsure of what he will need now and as the seasons change. Can you help me?

Many thanks, Skillets. I hope I draw a Marine next time. Doggies seem a bit timid.

FYI: Chesty was putting soldiers down, when he made that statement.

His well know admonition that the Marines needed more whiskey and beer and less ice cream and women was taken correctly as criticism of the Army's performance in that conflict. These remarks offended the Army, the Women's Christian Temperance Union, and the National Dairy Council; not bad for a single sound bite.

Puller also became critical of the military conduct of the Korean and Vietnam Wars although he remained a staunch anti-communist.

Here I am coming from left field. I used two frizbees to sent some goodies to the sandbox. 2 large frizbees hold quite abit. Aloe wipes and lip balm work real well (unscented of coarse)....

My cousin asks for CLP...lots of it! Also, any paperback books you have lying around. Also, wicking socks and bandaids, AA batteries and healthy snack bars and energy bars like you get at health stores and sporting goods stores.

I know I use too scarf/bring as much fruit as I could when in the field. Not practical/possible sometimes.

Healthy hi-fiber energy bars would be a good substitute along w/6-8 glasses of aqua per day.

I remember the Lieutenant's looking at me in the field, thinking where the fcuk is this guy getting all the fruit from ?

Anybody that has eaten "C" Rat's for weeks or months at a time knows it ain't fun sitting on a four holer straining a 105 round out of a BB bore http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/17.gif

Durring the summer months there, I was drinking 22-23 Liters of water a day (15 1.5L bottles)

If you could get one of those fat boys in your shelter tent (winter) that would be added heat. Forget summer ! They make good shields too. Dual purpose. They'll always be picked first too, when the Gunny says he needs another warm body http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/18.gif

I heard there was a song written about the army departure from the Frozen Chosen. I think it went something like "10,000 chinks coming through the pass playing burp gun boogie on a doggie's ass, they're moving on ....." The best statement about war Chesty puller ever made was this one in my opinion:

"They're on our right, they're on our left, they're in front of us, they're behind us; they can't get away from us this time." - Chesty Puller, USMC, Chosin Reservoir, Korean War

I understand the Marines that got out of the Chosen marched past the soldiers that had been there and they couldn't make eye contact. This was told me by Alvin Kirkwood, PFC, USMC on or about 1967 in Sigonella, Sicily. Al moved into the Navy because he said a warm, dry bed was becoming important. He was a Navy E-5 at the time, but still very much a Marine.

I am old as dirt, a squid (I hope I can get a dispensation for that), overweight and sick and tired of not being able to get involved. I may not be able to run and jump, but I would be delighted to be given a Ma Deuce and allowed stand my ground in a bad place and deal with ugly persons while the more nimble youngsters shot what was left when I was done or dead.

"Hear the sound of running feet; whole damn army in full retreat!" Cadence at Boot Camp referring to the army at Chosin.

Might I recommend Epson Salts. No matter how impacted you are. A suitable dose of that will have you squirting through the eye of a needle at 100 paces without dirtying the sides. Put you head against the wall (recoil). Drink lots of water, LOTS! You will see it again.

Barbecue sauce, little debbies, white socks, OFF, magazines (not just porn ,although filthy nasty porn is greatly appreciated), any hot sauce other than Tobasco, anything really. Just think of stuff you could send that will not spoil, stuff to break up the monotony, anything you send will be greatly appreciated. Honestly its not just the stuff that youre sending but the effort that youre putting into it and the support your showing by going out of your way will be appreciated more than anything. Semper Fi.

Chesty undoubtedly knew all about the "Art of Warfare" vs the Chinese Commander: "To a surrounded enemy, you must leave a way of escape". ~ Sun Tzu

The last fcuking thing you want to do is surround U.S. Marines http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/34.gif

If you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles... if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle. (Do you think someone should tell the White House this ?)
