Anna Nicole Smith dies after collapsing at South Florida hotel
Model collapsed at Hard Rock Cafe Hotel

(2/08/07 - HOLLYWOOD, FL) - Anna Nicole Smith, the former Playboy playmate whose bizarre life careened from marrying an octogenarian billionaire to the untimely death of her son, died Thursday after collapsing at a South Florida hotel, one of her lawyers said.

A press conference from the hospital is scheduled to begin at 3:15 CST. We will carry the video live on this page.

Smith, 39, collapsed and was unresponsive while staying at the Seminole Hard Rock Cafe Hotel and Casino, said the attorney, Ron Rale. She was rushed to a hospital.

"She checked in Monday at 8 p.m. as a guest. She was due to check out tomorrow," said Danielle Giordaano, a spokeswoman for the hotel.

Smith had been a tabloid staple even before she became Playboy's playmate of the year in 1993. Readers were fascinated by her bombshell good looks, her marriage to an elderly billionaire and subsequent court fight over his estate, her weight fluctuations, and last year, the sudden death of her 20-year-old son, Daniel Smith.

A former topless dancer, she made her name squeezing into Guess jeans. She resembled the late actress Marilyn Monroe, a similarity played up in her Guess magazine ads, billboards and department store displays.

In 1994, she married 89-year-old oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, the head of oil-based Koch Industries, which is part of a family fortune worth at least $400 million.

He died in 1995, setting off a feud with her former stepson, E. Pierce Marshall, over whether she had a right to his estate.

A federal court in California awarded Smith $474 million in a complicated legal twist that began after she declared bankruptcy. That was later overturned.

But in May, the U.S. Supreme Court revived her case, ruling that she deserved another day in court in her battle with her former stepson.

The justices said only that federal courts in California could deal with her case despite a Texas state court ruling that Marshall was the sole heir to the estate.

Then, the stepson died June 20 at age 67. But the family said the court fight would continue.

Daniel Smith died Sept. 10 in his mother's hospital room in the Bahamas, just days after she gave birth to a daughter.

An American medical examiner hired by the family, Cyril Wecht, said he had methadone and two antidepressants in his system when he died. Low levels of the three drugs interacted to cause an accidental death, Wecht said.

Meanwhile, the paternity of her now 5-month-old daughter remained a matter of dispute.

She was born Vickie Lynn Hogan on Nov. 28, 1967, in Houston, one of six children of Donald Eugene and Virgie Hart Hogan.

She married Bill Smith in 1985, giving birth to Daniel before divorcing two years later.

Interesting... I didnt even think about that. I just figured she died from what ever crap she put in her body to loose all that weight.

Thats My bust. The fact about Kurt Cobain and his murder were ignored for the same reason. Apathy.

Didn't they say she just recently give birth to a daughter, the father is estranged. Something, like, he didn't want to be one of her servants always saying, "Yes Nicole."

She was on the news yesterday talking about it with her attorney and she looked as if she had a problem to me, a slurring of her words as if drugged.

Maybe she did an Elvis ?

Maybe the pressure got to be too much, we'll never know.

The lady was beautiful, and led a very turbulent life, may she Rest In Peace. I'm not one to judge her lifestyle, but I feel great sympathy for the baby girl left behind. This poor kids life is now going to be a living h*** because no paternity was ever settled. May God help her with the media crap that is sure to come.

She has been on drugs for a while so it wasn't a matter of if she will die it was when. I don't understand why this is on the front page of every newspaper while the soldiers and Marines dying in Iraq and Afghanistan get a little box with their name in it as recognition (right next to the article saying the war is "wrong")

Funny all this dispute over her body, and kids and stuff....

Wasn't she married to a damn Attorney... Wouldn't you think with a couple billion dollars, and a lawyer husband you would have figured all this crapp out somewhere along the way

God bless the rubber titted *****.

Dysfunctional people really are getting on my nerves lately

Does anyone know why there is so much fuss about this woman? I can't think of a thing she has done to warrant the media being flooded with her. Between her and Britney that's all we see or hear from the media lately. I haven't heard a word about the war since she died and the other shaved her head. Maybe it's just the west coast think?.

It's the countries fascination with celebrity, and "tragedy", all rolled into one. Kinda like the same reaction one gets on the interstate with a multi-car pile up....you know you shouldn't look, you really don't want to look..but by the same token, you can't help it.

Of course, the media doesn't make it any easier.

Did you guys know that the Army just awarded a soldier the DSC?

Yeah. Not like that could be front page news for a day or two, right?

Nuff said.

Found it. Kentucky Guard Soldier Receives Distinguished Service Cross (http://www.blackanthem.com/News/U_S_Military_19/Kentucky_Guard_Soldier_Receives_Distinguished_Serv ice_Cross4559.shtml). Staff Sgt. Timothy Nein did an outstanding job leading his troopers in one hell of a fight.

But no one was pregnant or doped up or banging a billionaire octogenarian. They were ordinary Americans doing an extraordinary job.

First, RIP and God have mercy on you Miss Smith.

On the other hand, all of the attention paid to this Celebrity/Bimbo/Courtesan/IDAHO/Burnout/Goldigger bleached blonde airhead restricted my media viewing to CSPAN and the HSN (the wife has Gospel on the radio). It is a sad state of affairs that we have good folk in harms way to defend this type of crap. At least it drew attention from the other "newsmakers" (Bald Britney and the Astronut).

Incidentally, someone better keep a close eye on the kid (we don't want it OD-ing), 457 million is an awful lot of cash.

LONG LIVE THE CROTCH CULTURE.

Lastly; Leatherneck needs to add a puking smilie for storys such as this.

A friend of mine claims that he has the last pen she used while staying at the Hard Rock Hotel etc. I asked him if it had a battery in it. She was searching for something or didn't recognize it or mismanaged it when she had it. I hope that she now rests in the peace that only her maker can provide.
How she rated all the escort services provided by law enforcement agencies on her last jaunt to the Bahama's I'll never understand. It sure seemed out of wack and ruined quite a few commute minded South Floridians, me included.
