The remains of Lance Corporal Adam Quitugua Emul will arrive on Saipan on Feb. 10, and a reception, vigil and flag-raising await the fallen soldier at the airport.

Military Veterans Affairs Office director Ruth Coleman said that Emul's body is scheduled to arrive at the Francisco C. Ada International Airport on Saturday at 3pm. The reception inside the airport will be limited to family, friends and selected officials.

Between 3pm and 4pm, there will be a flag-raising ceremony and a vigil, also at the airport, to be spearheaded by the VFW Post 3457, Coleman said.

Members of the U.S. Marines will escort Emul's body to the CNMI. The presence of the Marines, said Coleman, means that Adam will be given full military honors during the memorial service at the CNMI Veterans Cemetery in Marpi.

She said the U.S. military provided her office no details on the exact cause of Emul's death, besides information that the CNMI soldier was killed in action on Jan. 29 in Al-Anbar, a province in Iraq.

“The details were given to the family only,” Coleman said.

Emul's memorial service will be held on Feb. 13, starting at 6am at the Nuestra Senora Dela Paz Memorial Chapel. The funeral cortege will proceed to Mt. Carmel Cathedral at 7am where a Responsorio Service, holy rosary and a public viewing will be held.

At 11am, a Mass will be celebrated, followed by interment at the Veterans Cemetery at 12 noon.

Adam, who was supposed to celebrate his 21st birthday this March 7, was from Tanapag.

A House of Representatives Commemorative Resolution will be given to Adam during the interment ceremonies at the Veterans Cemetery.

According to Rep. Candido Taman, he is now gathering information that would be included in the commemorative resolution to honor the youngest CNMI soldier killed in Iraq. “We are expressing our sincere appreciation for his ultimate sacrifice,” Taman said.

Emul is the third soldier from the CNMI killed in Iraq. Sgt. Yihjyh "Eddie" Chen, 31, was killed in 2004, while SSG Wilgene T. Lieto, 28, and SPC Derence Jack, 31, were killed in Iraq in October 2005.
