Twins in Iraq get bag full of cards

Birthday cards arrived in Iraq by the bag full in time for Cedar Vale twins Sgt. Christopher and Cpl. Chad McGathy's 23rd birthday Jan. 23.

Their mother, Nellie McGathy, had made a public plea for birthday cards or letters to be sent to her boys, who are serving their second tours to Iraq; their first tour together.

Chad and Christopher really appreciated "each and every card," their mother said.

"The boys told me the other Marines said they were jealous because Chad and Christopher received so much mail.," she said. But, the twins "shared the cards with their buddies so they wouldn't feel left out."

Both men are slated to return from Iraq in April.

"Their four years will be up in May and they plan to get out," Nellie said, though she said the twins will still be in the Marine reserves for four more years.

"At this time, they plan to go into public service," Nellie said. "Chad plans to go to the Police Academy and become a police officer. Christopher plans to attend Fire Science in Hutchinson and become a fireman."

The twins are 2003 graduates of Cedar Vale High School. They both joined the Marines immediately after graduation.
