Sauro book on Vietnam nominated for state award

A book written on Vietnam last year by North Branch resident Christy Sauro has been nominated for a top state award.
“The Twins Platoon, An Epic Story of Young Marines at War in Vietnam,” has been nominated for the 2006 Minnesota Book Awards. Finalists for the award will be announced on Jan. 27.
Winners will be announced at the 19th annual Minnesota Book Awards gala on Saturday, May 5 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in St. Paul.
Sauro's book is the account of the Minnesota Twins Platoon, a group of Marines who took their oath of office at a Minnesota Twins game at Metropolitan Stadium in June of 1967. By the end of the year, most of the Marines were serving in Vietnam.
The Minnesota Book Awards is a Capital City project led by The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library, and in consortium with the Saint Paul Public Library and the mayor’s office in St. Paul.
