Sergeant to receive Navy Cross

A sergeant who deployed with 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, in Iraq will receive the Navy Cross on Friday morning, according to a press release.

Sgt. Aubrey McDade Jr., originally from Houston, will be the 15th Marine to receive the nation’s second-highest award for valor during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

McDade is now a drill instructor with Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C. He was with 1st Platoon, Bravo Company, 1/8, while in Iraq.

He is scheduled to receive the award during a graduation ceremony at Parris Island.

Drill instructor to receive medal

PARRIS ISLAND - A Marine Corps drill instructor at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island will receive the Navy Cross medal Friday for “courageous acts” during his time serving in Iraq, officials announced Wednesday.

Sgt. Aubrey L. McDade Jr., of Houston, will receive the prestigious medal during the recruit graduation ceremony, the Marines said in a statement.

In Iraq, McDade was a machine gun squad leader with the 1st Marine Division and was based in Camp Pendleton, Calif. His is a drill instructor with the 1st Recruit Training Battalion at Parris Island.

McDade graduated from Western Hills High School in Fort Worth, Texas, and enlisted in the Marine Corps in November 1999.
