Limbs dangling from tendons, open torsos filled with shrapnel and the dazed stares of shell-shocked soldiers, a nurse mopping up a blood-covered a floor or cataloging a body part in a jar would (should?) provide even the most ardent supporters of our occupation with reason to pause. And in their pause they should ask themselves: Why am I not over there fighting this fight which I so stridently insist must be fought? Is this occupation really worth losing an arm, both arms, both legs, or both legs and an arm ? If red-blooded Americans from small rural towns I have never heard of are sacrificing life and limb so that the Boca Raton Little League can play its games free from terrorists and the shoppers of Bethesda can pile up debt, shouldn’t I or my progeny either take a role in fighting or, conversely, work to stop the unnecessary slaughter?

10thz- I'm tryin' to picture, in my mind's eye, "Manila" John Basilone standing in line at the Marine recruiting station, in Dec. of '41. And him saying to the guy next to him, "Hey Mac, waddya say we blow this off and go have a couple beers? Heck, those Japs are 10,000 miles from Buffalo! We got nuttin' to worry about. I ain't spillin' my guts on some stinkin' little island in the middle of nowhere! Let's just wait 'til they're in our own backyard. Then we'll show 'em what for!"

And what if a few but vocal Americans spread the same 'word', to where everybody just got this false sense of security...."Oh, we'll be alright. That stuff overseas is just none of our business!"

You and I would be "Sumo wrestling" instead of playin' baseball. And the blood and guts of Americans would have been spilled in Georgia, Indiana, Wyoming, and New Hampshire, instead of Guadalcanal, Betio, and Iwo Jima!

But hey, I respect your opinion...even though it IS wrong! If you'd rather fight Islamic terrorists here in the USA.....(I don't know, maybe I'm just missin' something here?)

Drumscorpssnare - Maybe it's the Islamic fleets that haven't been launched yet that you are missing. Not to mention they may not have intelligent neo-cons like us that would dismiss an insurgency fueled by the NRA once they get here. Hell, I can arm every swinging dick on my block myself.

In your analogy about the Japanese and Germans, have you considered how come we're not talking Russian and Chinese yet, the latter replacing the former ?

Think about it, could we of done it then, what we have done now ?

Japanese-Germans vs Russian-Chinese

Is there really a difference ?

Don't say the Japanese attacked us, we provoked them by shutting their oil off.

Could you imagine if Americans couldn't get oil, what we'd do !!!

10thz- I don't need to imagine what the liberal Dems would do if the middle east shut off the oil tomorrow. They'd all curl up in the fetal position under their desks, and cry. They are a bunch of weak-kneed, limp-wristed, pasty faced, bone-smokers!

And check your history book. Japan did attack us. Not just an attack, but a
sneak attack (read-9/11). And yes, we did refuse to sell them oil, steel, scrap metal, tires, etc. Because they were international antagonists! (read- the Manchurian Incident; the Rape of Nanking, etc.) Are you insinuating that if Japan said, "You must sell us what we want!" the U.S. should have buckled under and said, "Okay, we're sorry we upset you."
Get a grip man! The Axis Powers were CLEARLY THE AGGRESSORS!!! (read- Islamic terrorists, El Quaida, Hamas, etc.)

You never have clearly stated what you think the solution for Iraq is. Do you think that if we leave in three months, the bad guys will say, "Thanks. Everything is fine now. Bye!" ??????

Let me assure you Mr. "Z"meister....these nut cases are going to continue to do all they can, to hurt and kill Americans, until there are no more of them left on earth! You may think different 10thz, but we shall see.

RESONSE IN RED:

10thz- I don't need to imagine what the liberal Dems would do if the middle east shut off the oil tomorrow. They'd all curl up in the fetal position under their desks, and cry. They are a bunch of weak-kneed, limp-wristed, pasty faced, bone-smokers!

Regardless of whether you are a Democrat or Republican. The price of gasoline in the US has doubled or more in a couple of years while in Japan it has only increased 25 % over the last seven years. And the average American still cheers on the federal monster. It doesn’t take much of a math whiz to figure out the US government is taking advantage of you –

And check your history book. Japan did attack us. Not just an attack, but a
sneak attack (read-9/11). And yes, we did refuse to sell them oil, steel, scrap metal, tires, etc. Because they were international antagonists!
(read- the Manchurian Incident; the Rape of Nanking, etc.)

Read "War Is A Racket", what General Smedley D. Butler said about international antagonists and rapist! "I spent 33 years in the Corps, and spent most of my time being a high-class muscle man for Big Business." He also said he had been a racketeer for capitalism who "helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street."

Are you insinuating that if Japan said, "You must sell us what we want!" the U.S. should have buckled under and said, "Okay, we're sorry we upset you."
Get a grip man! The Axis Powers were CLEARLY THE AGGRESSORS!!! (read- Islamic terrorists, El Quaida, Hamas, etc.)

Was Japan really threatning us ? During a private conversation with Prime Minister Prince Konoye, Isoroku Yamamoto said, "I can gaurantee to put up a tough firght for the first six months but I have absolutely no confidence about what would happen if it went on for two or three years.... I hope you will make every effort to avoid war with America."

You never have clearly stated what you think the solution for Iraq is. Do you think that if we leave in three months, the bad guys will say, "Thanks. Everything is fine now. Bye!" ??????

We can only send 30,000 troops for what, 3-5 months, certainly not five years and the insurgency knows that. The question is moot.

Let me assure you Mr. "Z"meister....these nut cases are going to continue to do all they can, to hurt and kill Americans, until there are no more of them left on earth! You may think different 10thz, but we shall see.

"My sincere view is that the commitment of our forces to this fight was done with a casualness and swagger that are the special province of those who have never had to execute these missions—or bury the results." ~ Lt. General Gregory Newbold, USMC on Mideast War

So where exactly IS
"The United Democratic Republic of Vietnam?"

In what parallel universe ?

Because, in THIS universe, it is:

Cộng Hňa Xă Hội Chủ Nghĩa Việt Nam
(The Socialist Republic of Vietnam)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/66/Vietnam_coa.gif/110px-Vietnam_coa.gif (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Vietnam_coa.gif)

A one-party COMMUNIST nation.

And so, where is the "victory?" And where is the justification for the human costs of THAT folly:
or for the present debacle in the Mideast, for that matter ?
