Marines to testify before House on body armor

Marine Corps officials will testify before the House Armed Services subcommittee on seapower and expeditionary forces Tuesday on body armor and protective equipment.
The Corps began issuing the Modular Tactical Vest this month to deployed Marines. The design was approved Oct. 19 by former Marine Commandant Gen. Mike Hagee.
Officials at Marine Corps Systems Command in Quantico, Va., have said the MTV is more comfortable than its predecessor, the Outer Tactical Vest, and offers more protection from bullets and shrapnel.
But Army officials in November said the Corps’ new vest offers the same protection as the last one and is two pounds heavier to boot.
