Couple researches came up with nothing

Easy one. Bull****. There are no DI's in Camp Lejeune, unless he was at Montford Point during WWII.
Distinguished Service Medals are NOT typically awarded to enlisted, even SgtMaj's. That's a BGen and above decoration 90 percent of the time.
The name "Lystlund" does not appear as a Navy Cross winner during the Afganistan, or Iraq conflicts.
Nor does that name appear on ANY award of the Navy Cross during any time frame from WWI to the present.
The name "Lystlund" also does NOT appear in the database for the Combat Action Ribbon, either by name or the ssn you provided. The database is not 100 percent accurate, however, you would think a "Navy Cross" winner would be listed.
No idea if he was a Marine or not, but he sure doesn't have the NC.
