MAG-29 members to leave for Iraq on Sunday

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — About 40 members of Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C.-based Marine Aircraft Group 29 are scheduled to leave for Iraq on Sunday. The group’s main body will leave for a yearlong deployment later this month, according to a press release.
MAG-29 will command between 11 and 14 squadrons in Iraq, as well as the two units currently in its command, Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 29 and Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 269.
This will be the group’s second deployment to Iraq. The first spanned six months beginning in January 2003, when it acted as the 3rd Rotary Wing MAG for 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.
MAG-29 will replace Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif.-based MAG-16.
