Marine dies of rare blood disorder; Miramar man was evacuated from Iraq last month

MIRAMAR -- A Tucson, Ariz., Marine based at Miramar has died of a rare blood disorder in San Diego, three weeks after being evacuated from Iraq to be treated for the disease.
Sgt. Aron C. Blum, 22, died Dec. 28 at Naval Medical Center San Diego. His parents told a Tucson television station that Blum, who had been serving in Anbar Province with Miramar's 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, died of aplastic anemia, a disorder that causes blood and bone marrow failures.
Blum left Iraq because of illness Dec. 8. He was assigned to Marine Aerian Refueler Transport Squadron 352, Marine Aircraft Group 11, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force at Miramar.
