Congressional Task Force Chairman Cantor Details Sponsorship of Terrorism by Iran, Iraq, and Syria
Cantor also serves on the House International Relations Committee

WASHINGTON, Oct. 17— Congressman Eric Cantor (R-Virginia), as Chairman of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, has just released a Task Force study detailing acts of state sponsorship of terrorism perpetrated by Iran, Iraq, and Syria. Iran, Iraq, and Syria’s sponsorship of terrorism needs to be curbed by the United States to root out the threat terrorism poses to the American people.

"As the President and other officials have started discussing the need to broaden the war on terrorism beyond Osama bin Laden, the Task Force is releasing open-source information confirming sponsorship of terrorism within Iran, Iraq, and Syria. These details specify infrastructure that may need to be destroyed to complete the fight against terrorism," asserted Cantor.

The study finds, "these states have demonstrated that they are morally bankrupt, spiritually impoverished and untrustworthy in their seeming willingness to provide assistance against global terrorism."

Congressman Cantor’s study cites terrorist training camps at several locations within Iran. Camps exist in Northeast Iran and near the Strait of Hormuz that are used to provide instruction in civil aviation and in naval operations.

Iraq supports bin Laden and provides terrorists with access to sophisticated equipment. The Iraqi government contributes to intelligence networks in Yemen and Sudan.

Syria maintains a communications center near Damascus affording terrorists the ability to communicate worldwide.

These are just a few of the demonstrated efforts of Iran, Iraq, and Syria to sponsor international terrorism included in Cantor’s latest Task Force study. The Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare is a coalition of Members of Congress studying the threats international terrorism poses to the U.S. and seeks to raise awareness within Congress about the need to fight terrorism.
