Marines Help Children World Wide
January 02, 2007

Since the beginning of the Toys for Tots program in the late 1960s Marines have helped over seven (7) million children and delivered over eighteen (1 million toys across the globe. The U.S. Marine Corps is rich with traditions and the Toys for Tots program is one of the most recognized.

This year the Marine Security Guard Detachment with generous help of U.S. Mission employees, USAID, CIV POL, and family members from the United States collected over 400 toys for needy boys and girls throughout the cities of Gjakova and Pristina, Kosovo.

On the 23rd of December the Marine Security Guard Detachment Pristina along with the Save the Children foundation gave over 150 toys to more than 70 children in the town of Gjakova, Kosovo. Gjakova is a war-torn city home to many children lost who their families during the armed conflict in the late 1990s. Most of the children were orphaned and later adopted by families and relatives throughout the city.

This wonderful occasion would not have been so successful if it were not for the endless generosity of so many. The Marine Security Guard Detachment would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the following:

United States Office Pristina
U.S Agency for International Development (USAID)
Civilian Police International (CPI)
The Ambulatory Surgery & Endoscopy section of the Kingsbrook Jewish Hospital in Brooklyn, NY.
Save the Children Foundation
