From what I understand Col. Applegate was given the task of training OSS (Granddaddy of the CIA) personnel to be no-nonsense, lethal operatives. From what I understand he was a master knife fighter and developed a fighting knife with a Mr. Randall, in Florida in conjunction with a Mr.Fairbarn(?), British, out of Singapore. From what I undersatand Col. Applegate developed a method of close quarter pistol firing that contradicted the modern match firing techniques taught. My old Judo Instructor (Sensei) circa Korean and Vietnam War said that he never met Col. Applegate but knew his techniques as lethal. I'm just curious to know if his techniques have all but been forgotten because I don't know any one who teaches them.
My best to all.
Gary
It is Shanghai not Singapore.

His motivation?
"Reports show most trainees can't hit their ass under stress,
close quarter, firefight situations,"
Applegate said. That was all he motivation he needed.

Some of that training might be useful in urban warfare.

Col Applegate, and Fairborn are also known world wide for developing close quarter knife fighting, The knife design they made for the services, is still one of the best on the market, and a top seller, many many books about both of them and thier tecnicques.
