Pittsburgh Business Times - 11:28 AM EST Wednesdayby Dan Reynolds

A local company won a Marine Corps contract this week that could be worth $39 million through 2011.

Optical Systems Technology Inc., a Freeport-based manufacturer of long-range night vision scopes, is the winner in a three-way, Web-based application contest to manufacture and deliver 4,700 scout sniper mid-range night sights to the Marines by December 2007, the Department of Defense said late Tuesday.

The contract for 4,700 units is worth $6.9 million but could be extended to $39 million through 2011 with options, according to the Marine Corps Systems Command, which is based in Quantico, Va.

A spokesman for Optical Systems Technology Inc. could not be reached for comment.

According to the company's Web site, Optical Systems Technology, founded in 1995, is the founding member of the OmniTech Partners Group, a conglomeration of electro-optical technology companies that occupies about 18,000 square feet in Freeport. According to its Web site, the companies employ 65.

Other members of the group are Keystone Applied Technologies Inc., a maker of surveillance systems that was founded in 2001, and FrigLite Inc., a maker of lighting for refrigerated display cases that was founded in 2003.
