I'm an old ITR grad myself, but Marines fresh out of boot camp today still go on to a newer version of ITR. Marine Combat Training (3 weeks) for non-infantry types and School of Infantry for the grunts (5 - 6 weeks or so, I forget exactly). There they do the same stuff we did in ITR and spend most of their time in the field and on ranges.

The grunt stuff in boot camp is very basic and primarily for physical fitness, self-confidence, self-discipline, and teamwork building purposes.
