TRENTON - Briasha Blackstone, a 3-year-old patient in the pediatrics ward at Capital Health System at Mercer hospital played intently yesterday with a small cash register - the result of a bountiful overflow of the spirit of giving.
She had just received the toy from board members of the Puerto Rican Parade of Trenton organization.
President Idamis Perez-Margicin said the group began collecting toys for children ages 2 to 12 on Dec. 12 to give out at a Jan. 6 event in honor of Three Kings Day, a religious observance that is a gift-giving holiday on the islands.
The gifts were donated by board members and the United States Marines. "We got over 1,000 gifts," Perez-Margicin said.
