Army-Marine doctrine retools way U.S. fights beyond Iraq
NewsChannel 10 Amarillo

FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. Army officials say a new counterinsurgency doctrine should help soldiers and Marines fight a new type of enemy, but it should NOT be considered a plan for getting out of Iraq.

The doctrine is the military's first major effort to combine information on low-intensity conflict, guerrilla warfare and counter-insurgencies that is contained in numerous documents from the past quarter century.Written for battalion and division commanders, the manual emphasizes ways to fight insurgents, unlike past efforts to fight large-scale wars or enemies. Additional documents outlining tactics, techniques and procedures will be produced. The manual has taken two years to produce. It's the work of the Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth.
