One day last week, a purse snatcher tried to grab a lady's handbag in front of the Capitol in DC. The purse didn't dislodge from the lady's shoulder.
The purse snatcher's first mistake was choice of victim. The lady happened to be the wife of Lincoln, Nebraska's Chief of Police, Tom Casady, who was at her side.
His second mistake was after the purse failed to dislodge, the snatcher stopped and said something unintelligible to the couple. This hesitation was just long enough for Casady to pin him to a barricade while yelling for the police, whom Casady knew would be plentiful at that location.
Casady said later that engaging the purse snatcher physically may not have been the smartest thing to do, but that underneath his bald dome there is still a red-headed Irish temper.
