Santa came early to Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, bringing 100 Christmas trees to station Marines, sailors and their families at 9 a.m. Saturday.

It was first-come, first-served for trees, and the turnout was good, with trees being picked at a rapid pace.

Sgt. Anna Lima and her 7-year-old daughter, Jadyn Dubois, told The Sun, "We got about a seven-foot tree today. We're gonna put it on a tree stand ... and decorate it tomorrow. We'll put the Christmas Angel onto the top of our tree. That's always the first thing to go."

The Trees for Troops program, sponsored by the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation and the National Christmas Tree Association, is a part of FedEx Special Delivery, a nationwide program that provides transportation and logistical assistance for nonprofits and communities, according to a press release.

This is the second year nationwide Christmas tree growers and retailers have donated real Christmas trees for military families, according to the release. Information on the program can be found at the Web site www.realchristmastrees.org.

More than 11,000 trees from 27 states are going to 25 military bases in the U.S. and overseas. Last year, 4,300 trees were delivered to bases, according to the release.
