Report: Marines rescue Iraqi hostage, arrest kidnappers

Marines with 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion rescued an Iraqi man who was being held hostage by insurgents in Iraq’s Anbar province, arrested three suspected kidnappers and uncovered two partially buried weapons caches during a daytime raid Nov. 29, according to a Defense Department release.

“It looked like they had beaten him pretty bad with a cane,” Cpl. Eric Maxwell, who participated in the operation, said in the release. “He couldn’t stand on his own. We had to pick him up. Our corpsman provided medical attention to the guy.”

While pursuing a fleeing insurgent, the Marines discovered and then destroyed 16 artillery rounds, an Italian 8mm pistol with magazine, one AK-47 assault rifle and one M14 rifle with 10 rounds, according to the release.
