What is security forces, and is that one of my enlistment options?

They guard places that need to be guarded by more than an MP. It is an option for infantry Marines.

I thought it was a secret clearance, but it could be top secret.

i understand that its an 18 month assignment before entering the fleet as an infantryman...does that security clearance stay with you the whole time? im looking to get a career with a 3 letter agency and im not sure if intel or security forces makes a difference

A security clearence is good for a specified amount of time. I am pretty sure a TS is good for 5 years and a Secret is good for 10. Of course, any time you change units or assignements there is a long and detailed form you have to fill out.

Depending what agency you're talking about that can help. Of course, they will run their own checks on you as well. But, being a Marine never hurt anything. People I served with not work for a couple of the three letter agencies, a four letter agency, and one that is better known by a couple of words. The MOS isn't as important as the honorable discharge.
