I'm not asking about the lessons or skills that Marines take home from Parris Island or San Diego. I was wondering how much of the gear that has been issued do Marines keep? I know they dont take their weapons home or anything.

Thanks,
Will

Unless things have changed since the last person I knew came back, you turn the gear in when you're done. You come home with your uniforms and that is about it. When you get to the fleet you get the gear that you will have from then on. Be very thankful for that, because it isn't easy to walk through an airport with your uniforms. Adding all of your deuce gear would make it just about impossible.

You will take your full clothing issue home and it consists of everything the Corps deems necessary. You will hump a sea bag, a clothing bag and a ditty bag out of MCRD. Here's some pics of what your stowed gear will look like on graduation day.

The only gear you keep is your wall locker and foot locker gear. When you get to your unit, you will get your gear at supply and sign for it. When you leave or go to a new unit you will turn in all the gear on the supply list. The armory is a whole thing in it's self, you sign for magazines and your weapon and get a card. You also even get a meal card, so you can eat at the mess hall. I had flight gear, so I had to sign for that too. If you lose any of this gear you will have to pay for it. If your uniforms get to small or messed up you can turn them in and get new ones. But everytime you get promoted you have to get the stripes put on your self. If you are in the Reserves you take the gear home if they don't have lockers. The weapons stay in the armory, and you better always have your weapon card on you. Get the idea ? Sound off.

Sgt, I am pretty sure they're doing "career issue" now which means you get most of your deuce gear once, and keep it until it needs to be replaced or you get out. It cuts down on the need to do as much check-in at a new unit. They were going to this Corps wide when I got out.
