Green Springs Grieving for Marine Killed Sunday

Nov 20, 2006 06:18 PM

GREEN SPRINGS -- Twenty-two-year-old Lance Corporal Jeremy Shock was killed Sunday fighting in Iraq. Shock is from Green Springs in Seneca County, where his family lives -- and now, grieves.

Shock's family declined an interview on-camera, but they did tell News 11 that Jeremy always wanted to be a Marine and that they are extremely proud of him. He was a member of the Weapons Company 1st battalion, 24th Marines. The young Marine was killed when he ran over a bomb while driving the lead vehicle in his convoy.

The flag flies at half staff at Clyde Senior High School, from where Shock graduated in 2002. Clearly, as a boy, he made an impact on those around him.

"He made the ultimate sacrifice for us, and that's why we deserve to fly it at half staff -- out of respect for him," said Joe Webb, principal and football coach. "You look at kids who come through here -- and I've been at Clyde for 16 years now, and I've coached a lot of young men -- and Jeremy was one of the best."

Shock was a beloved football player and a talented singer in the choir -- but he was best known for being a good friend, and he's left many behind to mourn his loss.

"He was the type of kid who came to school here a very respectful young man, did a lot of things while he was at school and a lot of different activites and made a lot of close friends," Webb said.

The funeral arrangements for Jeremy Shock have not been made yet, but the family says the funeral will take place in the Green Springs or Tiffin area in about one week.
