Is there any way to get an "age waiver" for active duty or for the reserves?

I am 40 yrs. old, a former professional athlete (just a journeyman) a college graduate (not that it matters), in great shape and would like to give something back to this great country that has given so much to me and my family.

I grew up as a Marine Corp kid (Father was a former Marine), so cannot see myself with another branch.

I hope the old axiom, "Better late than never" is still possible here.

Thank you in advance.

I've heard of people getting age waivers up to 36, I don't know about 40. Your father is not a former Marine, he is a Marine. Once a Marine, always a Marine. I'm pretty sure some of the Marines on this site will have better answers than I do.

40 will be too old. The reason being is that you must be able to get in 20 years by age 60 for retirement purposes. The Army will let you in at that age.
