N. Carolinian charged with gun possession
11/8/2006
A North Carolina man, who showed Lackawanna police officers his Marine identification, was charged Monday night after a loaded gun was found inside his vehicle during a traffic stop, police said.
Brandon M. Thompson, 21, of Jacksonville, N.C., was charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon and a traffic violation.
Capt. Ronald Miller, Lackawanna's chief of detectives, said Thompson is a former Lackawanna resident who joined the Marines, but it was unclear if he is currently in the military. The Marines will be notified about the incident, he said.
Police said Thompson was driving on the wrong side of Wasson Avenue at about 10:25 p.m. when Lt. Joseph Leo and Officer Christopher Lalka pulled him over.
Miller said the officers noticed him placing something on the floor of the vehicle and discovered it was a loaded magazine for a pistol and loose bullets.
The officers arrested Thompson and recovered a loaded 9 mm pistol inside his jacket pocket, police said.
