is it possible to request infantry duty? which in my point of view does not have to much to do with engineering, technical stuff, etc. im a good shot with a rifle and i can haul heavy weight but i lack in the whole "smart" department, now dont get me wrong im decently smart, just not when it comes to machines, advanced field technology, and language translation. but im sure the marines could always use a good fighter. OO Rah!

lol..allright first...yes you can request to be an infantryman. I know I did and so did pretty much every other grunt out there.
But to be a good infantryman you cant just be some trigger happy, ground pounder , that is all brawn and no brains. You have to be able to think fast , be fast on your feet, be able to express yourself in a clear and concise manner to your Marines and have to be able to lead and to take charge. Being a grunt is hard , both physically and mentally. Please dont think that going into the 03 field is going to be easy and your going to skate. Youll be challenged in ways you didnt even know were possible. Its true though, the Marine Corps is always looking for some good warriors . Not just fighters. A good warrior has mental and physical strenghts, not just one or the other.

All Marines are "Grunts", some go to school and become more than ground pounders, but all are basically "Grunts." Don't get the idea that being a "Grunt" means you do not have any G-2 as some "Grunts" really enjoy living the way they do. Really is not much need for an X-Grunt in the real world, unless its police work or security.

LOL! OK now I'm the one rolling on the floor laughing - I think this is one of the ones John Kerry must have been talking about - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I'm sorry - that's just funny to me! He WANTS to be the brawn cause he ain't too much of a thinker...................

mock me all you wish, the only thing that will stop me from being a marine will be a crippling injury. i will keep on trying untill i get in.

heh heh, i wasen't offended, i was just making my point clear sir, and i never will understand why John Kerry claims that was a botched joke, how the heck can anyone botch a joke that bad?

What do you think BFD? That infantry doesn't have some sort of school to go through before they let you frolic through a field with an M16? Whatever you have to do in the Corps you will be required to think to a certain degree.

BFDslayer
11-12-06, 08:51 PM
ok, through my own stupidity i did not put this first, i do not want to be an officer, i am not officer material, nor am i fluent in any other language, and im not skilled with engineering or technician work. apparently some of you took what i said as an insult to your corps. all i was saying is that I am bound for the grunt work.

Can you use your bodily strength to be part of a team. Does the thought of letting us down put a worm in your gut?

We don't particularly want Albert Einstein in Our Beloved Corps. We want someone with the character and determination to be one of us. Is that you BFD?

Wing wipers are nice to see when you need air support.
Remington Raiders are nice when pay call comes around.
Motor "T" is always nice to see for a ride.
Cooks are nice to have around when you want a hot meal.
Supply personnel are always great to have around when you run out of ammo.

Are you getting the message that without these people the infantry is worthless.

First of all you are too young for now. The second problem is you have to pass the ASVAB. If you do not have a reasonable degree of intelligence you will not qualify to join the Marine Corps in any MOS.

First if you want to be a 0311, go for it. You will be molded into any MOS you go into and after you grow into it. You will be promoted and teach the next younger Marines coming in. That is how it works in all MOSs, you teach each other as you go along. But all Marines are riflemen first and their MOS second. We train and train, and help each other on everything. We are more than just Marines, we are friends, buddies and brothers. We live together, fight together and the worst thing die or see them killed. There is no MOS better than the other, they are all important. No Marine is better than another Marine because of his or her MOS. From a clerk to force recon a Marine is a Marine, and we will fight to protect each other and fight for each other. That is SEMPER FI. The stuff always brought up about John Kerry is out there, he is a squid. So let's lose his name here Marines OOORRAAHHH.

I never regretted doin my 'grunt thang', and even got a set of jump wings outta the deal...0311 all the way!

That having been said, some of the smartest Marines I ever served with were Grunts or former Grunts. Anyone, and I mean, ANYone, who thinks being Infantry is for the stupid amongst society, has not the faintest clue what the Infantry does. It's much more than just 'rifle totin'.

I've never met a dumb Infantryman....

'Cause Marines can't wear the Ranger tab!!!:D

Weren't no way I was going to go through all that Army bs and not be able to have anything I could wear!

Full disclosure, I had 0311 as a primary MOS from 82-85, then latmoved to 0231...but I still carry that 0311/9962, and damn proud of it! :flag:

Go take the ASVAB, push yourself and see what you are capable of before you set your own standards too low. You may be surprised what you can do.

 First, never assume grunt ain't got no cents. There is a ton of info to study and recall under fire, while directing others. Never forget, the wing has no fun without us putting them to work. If you really think you want it....0321 is a SWEET MOS, 8541's are top notch. You need brains either way. If you didn't, it wouldn't be worth it.
