what kind of things would an intel specialist be doing while he is stationed and not deployed?? would it be just a desk job or would there be combat training involved in it ?

Although looking through the rules I see nothing specifically prohibiting double-posting, it is a general breach of forum etiquette, so please try to limit yourself to one thread per topic (you have one other thread on this subject in this forum, and one in the "Ask a Marine" forum too), and if you have any further questions about the same subject just repost in one of the threads you've already made.

It is also possible to interpret rule #2 to prohibit multiple-posting as a logical extension (Rule Two before you post a thread make darn sure that you have researched the forums so that you are not embarrassed by the fact it was asked a week ago!). In any case, it will reduce clutter on the forums if you try to limit yourself to as few threads for the topic as possible. I can see why you might have reposted your question in the "Ask a Marine" forum, but I think that this post should have been made under the other thread in this forum that you already made on the subject.

If double-posting is considered acceptable in this forum, I apologize. I am, after all, not authorized in any way to police this forum.

You NEVER quit combat training whether you sit at a desk or cook - you STILL have to PT on a regular basis and, depending on your unit, you'll always have some sort of "gaming excercise" (like: getting woke up in the middle of the night to see how fast you can get dressed and to your shop AND work a whole day to check your sleep deprivation) to do to keep you on your toes and not bored.

Thank you for your help so far, it is helping me paint a picture of my future (that is when I make it happen and EARN the Title) I will never give up and always strive to learn as much as I can. However, it is my understanding that with an intel contract that if i DO NOT take the DLAB before my projected ship date that I can not be a 2600 SIGINT Marine. My intention is to be an 0231 intel specialist...the only entry level MOS for the 0200 field. One Marine has informed me that if I'm asked to take the DLAB in Recruit Training that I should intentionally fail it If I want to get 0200. Is this true? If not to what extent??

Intentionally fail the Defense Language Aptitude Battery? This is the test that measures your ability to learn a foreign language, and someone told you to fail intentionally? Yeah, thats a good idea. Here is another one, find out what you SDI's first name is, and call him that every time you see him. If you take a test and fail on purpose, they WILL find out. If you are going to seriously consider failing at anything while you are in the Marine Corps, why are you joining? The Marine Corps does not want you if you are not going to apply yourself to the best of your abilities and beyond. Think about the doors that you are going to slam shut by failing a test that could potentially qualify you for so many other things. Trust me, you will kick your own a** later for that. Never fail, never give up, and do what is right.

well thats all dandy and everything...but by purposely failing the dlab my intention is to guarantee that I will not get into 2600 and be assigned to 0200. i dont have a negative mentality i just want to be in control of my future!!! so back to my question...if i for some reason fail the DLAB will i be granted 0200 and eliminated from the possibility of being in the 2600 field??

Okay, first off, I don't know who you think you are talking to, but you may want to tone it down just a tad. I was trying to give you advice to enhance your future, instead of hindering your future. Showing the ability to learn a foreign language has the possibility of enhnacing your "career" in the intel community. Time to think outside the box for a minute. If you show strong abilities, you can EARN you way into a foreign language school. Who is more valuable in the intel community? The guy who failed the DLAB or the guy who passed because he shows an APPTITUDE to learn. Who is more valuable to the intel community? The guy that speaks a language such as Farsi or the guy who only speaks English, and as far as the Corps is concerned does not POSSESS THE ABILITY TO LEARN a new language. The answer is right in front of you. Don't take this as anything but what it is, experienced advice... I will leave it at that because I WILL not advise anyone about intentionally failing anything. So if you intentionally fail you are likely closing doors to your "career" that later you WILL wish that you had left open.

I was told my MEPS that I didn't have to take the DLAB for a DD (intel) contract, but I wanted DC for I took the DLAB and now have a DC (Crypto-Linguist) contract.
