Logan, Ohio -- Two men who left high school early to serve with the military in Vietnam have been granted diplomas by their old school district.

"This is the greatest thing in the world, getting a diploma at my age," Larry Budd said.

Budd left Central High School during his sophomore year to join the Army. He was a gunner on a gun truck from 1969 to 1970 in the Vietnam War.

Kenneth Malinowski, who also was approved for a diploma at a Logan-Hocking school board meeting last week, attended Central High School until his senior year in 1965.

That's when he left to join the Marines. He also served in Vietnam.

The veterans will receive their official diplomas when the Logan High School seniors graduate next year.

Logan is about 45 miles southeast of Columbus.
