Pretty random question, but I was just wondering: Do former Marines salute the flag during the national anthem? Or do they have to cover there heart with their hands? Thanks.

The SaluteTo salute, all persons come to attention. Those in uniform give the appropriate formal salute. Citizens not in uniform salute by placing their right hand over the heart and men with head cover should remove it and hold it to left shoulder, hand over the heart. Members of organizations in formation salute upon command of the person in charge.

I was taught that you stand at attention facing the flag, so that's what I do.

Hmmmmmmmmmm

I was taught to stand at attention and face the flag, but when the music starts you salute the flag by placing your hand over your heart, or if in uniform, military, scouts, police, fireman, etc... you render the hand salute as is proper for the uniform you are wearing...

In any case rendering respect is the important thing.
