On November 10th, 2006, I am scheduled off from school as a Holiday. Yet the only reason I can think of for this is because of the USMC's 232nd birthday! OORAH! to me, thats awesome, because I get to be off because of the Corps' birthday.
But anyways, moving along.... Do Marines get any special things to happen on Nov.10th? Im just wondering.

My guess is that the reason they did it is because Veteran's Day is the following day. But, I always like to think of the day off we get for Veteran's Day as really being for the Marine Corps Birthday.
Only issue, it won't be the 232nd birthday. 1775-2006 is 231 years.

It will help explain what we did/do at the Marine Corps Ball. Most will probably take advantage of the weekend pass (Those that can anyway) It will be celebrated by all Marines no matter were they are or what they are doing. We even had a special dinner when I was in the middle of the Saudi Arabian desert. Steak I think, with all the trimmings ;) . I for one will be working in a prison. But I will be there at heart with my brothers. Semper Fi!:flag:

By the way, 10 NOV 1992 was my enlistment date, first day of boot camp too...made it easy to remember as far as anniversaries go!

While the Marine Corps birthday is the 10th of November, due to location and scheduling, the Marine Corps Ball is very rarely held on that date. (Unless it falls on a Friday or Saturday) However, every unit I was ever with has always ensured that there was a cake cutting ceremony conducted, and if possible, you had steak (usually with lobster) on the 10th.
When I was in Misawa, we had two shifts, and I was on the midnight shift one year on 10 November. The Gunny and a couple Marines came up and we had a cake cutting ceremony at like 2300 at night. I never forgot this, and several years later when I was on Okinawa, I had my wife bake a cake and we took it to the guys who were working in the 24hr Comm Cntr on the 10th.
Another unique aspect of Marines and the 10th of November is that you greet one another on that day with "Happy Birthday." After I had gotten out, I was working as a civilian with an Army infantry unit on one of their exercises, and they had about 4 or 5 guys who were former Marines. It just so happened that the 10th of November was during the exercise, and as I was walking to the chow hall that morning, one of the Leutenants that was an enlisted Marine greeted me with "Happy Birthday." Throughout the day, you could hear soldiers who were once Marines greeting eachother that way, and it was nice to know that no one who has earned the title forgets it.
Semper Fi.
