Aviators eligible for up to $18K in continuation pay

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — Marine pilots can now get up to $18,000 a year in continuation pay as captains.

As of Oct. 1, captains who finish flight school and meet other requirements have two bonus options.

According to new rules for aviation continuation pay, captains can commit to serving 13 years and receive annual bonuses of $10,000 for pilots and $3,000 for naval flight officers.

A 16-year commitment pays out annual amounts of $18,000 for pilots and $7,000 for naval flight officers.

“This year when we looked at it, we realized now was the perfect time to begin to allow captains to be eligible,” said Maj. Dan Smith, aviation officer planner at Manpower and Reserve Affairs in Quantico, Va. “By allowing captains to be eligible, we’re giving them the opportunity to receive this retention bonus for many of them two years earlier than they would be eligible.”
