Wanted to pass the word, however belatedly, that Don Heim, USMC, died at his home in Burgaw, NC in June of this year. My brother joined the Corps in 1949 and was in Korea with the 11th Marines at the Reservoirs in the winter of 1950-51. He served as a forward observer with the 9th Marines in Vietnam in 1966-67 and, on a second tour in 1971-72, served with First Anglico. Don retired with his permanent rank of M/Sgt but received a field commission before his first Vietnam tour and subsequently earned the rank of captain before reverting back to enlisted status.
This is my first post. Hope this winds up in the right place and I haven't broken too many rules. Hope also that anyone reading this who served with Captain Heim will get in touch. He had written some things of his experiences prior to his death and the family would welcome any information that we could use in trying to put a book together. Thanks in advance.
