Eleven Fallen Marines Honored

It was a gloomy day for a somber occasion. The rain came down and so did the tears.
At the chapel at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, eleven names pierced the silence as the gun, helmet, boots and dog tags of each fallen marine were laid down.

The items stood as if at attention. Family and friends were given a chance to say good-bye.

Andy Aguilar remembers his son, 21-year-old Andres Aguilar, Jr., as someone awesome. "He was a kind gentle man, easy to get along with, never had a problem making friends, always willing to help."

Corporal Aguilar was the oldest of four. His friends called him AJ and he loved to play soccer. He never talked about not coming back.

"I think one part my wife is going to hurt is on Mother's Day and birthdays," Aguilar, Sr. says. "He would send her a dozen roses, but when Mother's Day came around this year, we took him the roses."

The fallen marines came from Puerto Rico, Mexico and from all over the United States. All of them were part of the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines regiment. All of them were young men in their 20's who paid the ultimate price.
