A Group of Marines From Our Nation's Capitol, Dazzle Crowds in the Low Country

A group of Marines have been dazzling crowds in the Low Country this week, with their sites and sounds and we salute their efforts in this week's Military Salute.

It's the United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, part of the Battle Color Detachment from Marine Barracks, Washington, DC. While the group known as, The Commandant's Own, they perform more than 400 times a year, wowing crowds all over the world.

"They always seem to exceed my expectations every year," said Beaufort resident, Steve Illis.

"Our main mission is to motivate, inspire, not just the Marine side of the house but the civilians and the children," said Band Member, Master Sgt Kevin Buckles.

But the Commandant's Own brings more than music to people's ears, they also display the Corps' finest in drill precision. While their performances are entertaining these marines are hoping to send a message as well.

"We just want to inspire the crowd, hopefully get them to remember there are Marines in harms way, that are allowing us to sit hear and enjoy this performance," said MSgt Buckles.

That's why we at WTOC, Salute the Marines with The Commandant's Own.
